Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 706,7 thousand people, including 390,3 thousand people (55,2% ) - urban, 316.4 thousand people (44,8%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-March 2024 amounted to 3063 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 3252 people).

The number of births as January-March 2024 amounted to 3942 people (4,2% less than in January-March 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 879 people (1,7% more than in January-March 2023).

The balance of migration amounted to - 426 people (in January-March 2023 - -46 people), including in external migration - 134 people (174), in internal - -560 people (-220).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 17692 people. The unemployment rate was 4,9% of the labour force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 20427 people or 5,8% of the labour force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 604052 tenge, a decreased compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 2,3%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 89,1%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 353132 tenge, which is 6% higher than in IV quarter 2022, real cash income for the specified period decreased 3,6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2024 amounted to 3543005 million tenge in current prices, which is 0,6% less than in January-April 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 0,9%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities decreased by 5,2%, in the manufacturing industry they increased by 1,7%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and unconditioned air by 16,9%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-April 2024 amounted to 28165,5 million tenge, or 102,8% by January-April 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2024 amounted to 15210,4 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 100,8% compared to January-April 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 1504,1 million pkm, or 106,3% by January-April 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 268004 million tenge, or 93,7% compared to January-April 2023.

In January-April 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 14,6% and amounted to 143.2 thousand square meters. At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 3.1% (141.3 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2024 amounted to 620210 million tenge, or 65.5% by January-April 2023.

Number of registered legal entities as of may 1, 2024 amounted to 14523 units and decreased by 98.9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14130 units with less than 100 employees.The number of operating legal entities amounted to 11180 units, among which 10787 units are small enterprises.The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12489 units and increase by 98.7% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January- April 2024 compared to January-April 2023 amounted to 96,9%. The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-december 2023 amounted to (according to operational data) 14950418,3 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-December 2022, real GRP increased by 109,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 56,3%, and services – 35,1%.

The consumer price index in April 2024 compared to December 2023 was 103%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 3.8%, non-food products - by 2,8%, food products – by 2,7%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2024 compared to December 2023 decreased by 2,1%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 153072,1 million tenge, or 3,3% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 1987085,7 million tenge, or 89,7% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 74,9 million US dollars and decreased by 24,5% compared to January-March 2023, including exports – 15,1 million US dollars (by 42,4% less), imports – 59,8 million US dollars (18,1% less).
