Population size and migration

The population of the region as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 788.5 thousand people, including 446.8 thousand people (56.7%) - urban, 341.7 thousand people (43.3%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-March 2024 amounted to 695 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 910 people).

The number of births as January-March 2024 amounted to 2558 people (2.9% less than in January-March 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 1863 people (8.1% more than in January-March 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -153 people (in January-March 2023–-388 people), including in external migration - a negative balance of - 742 people (66 people), in internal-negative -895 people ( -454 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 20.2 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4.7% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 6877 people, or 1.6% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 313253 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 14.4%.

The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 104.6%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capital nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 185806 tenge, which is 16.6% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 4.6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2024 amounted to 592686.6 million tenge in current prices, which is 0.5% less than in January-April 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 8.7%, in the manufacturing industry decreased by 4.7%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was an increase of 37.1%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 16.4%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-April 2024 amounted to 107595.8 million tenge, or 99.5% by January-April 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2024 amounted to 8172.6 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 92.2% compared to January-April 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 390.7 million pkm, or 101.1% by January-April 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 25285 million tenge, or 131.4% by January-April 2023.

In January-April 2024, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 21.5% and amounted to 166.4 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 26.5% (73.2 thousand square meters), the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 24.2% (84.6 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2024 amounted to 114204.4 million tenge, or 61.6% by January-April 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of Мау 1, 2024 amounted to 14859 units and decreased by 1.2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14522 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12289 units, including 11956 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11616 units and decreased by 0.9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January-April 2024 compared to January-April 2023 amounted to 101.5%. The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2023 amounted to 3685297.6 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-December 2022, real GRP increased by 99.9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 52.3%, and services – 40.7%.

The consumer price index in April 2024 compared to December 2023 was 102.7%.

Prices for food products increased by 2.3%, non-food products – by 2.1%, paid services for the population – by 4.3%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 5.1%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 121956.8 million tenge, or 4% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 160089.6 million tenge, or 97.6% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 117.9 million US dollars and decreased by 28.3% compared to January-March 2023, including exports – 43.4 million US dollars (by 15.3% less), imports – 74.5 million US dollars (34.2% less).
