Population size and migration

The population of the city as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 1451.5 thousand people.

The natural increase in the population in January-March 2024 amounted to 5509 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 7140 people).

The number of births as January-March 2024 amounted to 6942 people (2.8 % less than in January-March 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 1433 people (10.9% more than in January-March 2023).

The migration balance is positive and amounted to 15899 people (in January-March 2023 - 6752 people), including 509 in external migration (309 people ), in internal 15390 people (6443 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 32599 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,5% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of March 1, 2024 amounted to 8496 people, or 1,2% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2023 amounted to 549977 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2022 amounted to 17,2%. The real wage index in IV quarter 2023 was 107,1%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 276296 tenge, which is 11,3% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 1,7%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2024 amounted to 628195.3 million tenge in current prices, which is 13.1% more than in January-April 2023.

In the manufacturing industry - increased by 15.6%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was decreased by 10.8%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities decreased - by 0.8%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-April 2024 amounted to 1090.5 million tenge, or 99% by January-April 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2024 amounted to – 12570.4 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 114.3% compared to January-April 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 5582.4 million pkm, or 118.8% by January-April 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 127493.8 million tenge, or 126.9% compared to January- April 2023.

In January-April 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 34.1% and amounted to 1285.8 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 34.9% (1264.3 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 0.1% (21.5 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-March 2024 amounted to 368958.2 million tenge, or 120.3% by January-April 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 101861 units and increased by 5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 101037 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 78912units, including 78091 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the town amounted to 92872 units and increased by 4,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January-April 2024 compared to January-April 2023 amounted to 110,9%. The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2023 amounted to 12874957.1 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-December 2022, real GRP increased by 5,4%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 13.7%, services – 79.2%.

The consumer price index in January-April 2024 compared to January-April 2023 was 9.3%.

Prices for food products increased by 6.3%, non-food products – by 7.6%, paid services for the population – by 12.6%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in January-April 2024 compared to January-April 2023 increased by 6.1%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 668714,5 million tenge, or 6.3% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 1794360,2 million tenge, or 102.8 % compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 1152.4 million US dollarsand decreased by 15.3% compared to January- March 2023, including exports – 374.9 million US dollars (by 24.1% less), imports – 777.5 million US dollars (10,3% less).
