Population size and migration

The population of Zhambyl region as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 1222,8 thousand people, including 532,1 thousand people (43,5% ) - urban, 690,7 thousand people (56,5%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-March 2024 amounted to 4213 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 4451 people).

The number of births as January-March 2024 amounted to 6058 people (2,7% less than in January-March 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 1845 people (4,1% more than in January-March 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -3995 people (in January-March 2023 – -2083 people), including in external migration - a negative balance of – -67 people (+6), in internal – -3928 people and (-2089).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 27156 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 22699 people or 3,9% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 282100 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 10,8%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 101,8%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 139608 tenge, which is 19,6% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 108,3%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2024 amounted to 258803,7 million tenge in current prices, which is 9% less than in January-April 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 11,6%, in the manufacturing industry decreased by 17,5%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there decreased by 0,5%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities have been noted increase by 4,3%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-April 2024 amounted to 62144,4 million tenge or 102,9% by January-April 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2024 amounted to 13966,8 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 101,8% to January-April 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic 676,4 million pkm or 121,6% by January-April 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 45711,5 million tenge or 114% by January-April 2023.

In January-April 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 2,9% and amounted to 159,7 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 34,6% (50,6 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 7,9% (108,3 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2024 amounted to 109550,2 million tenge or 123,1% by January-April 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 15224 units and increased by 1,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14836 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12232 units, including 11844 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12138 units and increased by 1,6% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January-April 2024 compared to January-April 2023 amounted to 99,4%. The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2023 amounted to 3108407,6 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period real GRP increased by 1,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 32,8%, services – 60,2%.

The consumer price index in April 2024 compared to December 2023 was 102,8%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 3,2%, food products – by 3,1%, non-food products – by 2%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 3,8%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 149337,5 million tenge that 2,3% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 97697 million tenge or 92,2% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2024 mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 39265,9 million US dollars and decreased by 54,7% compared to January-March 2023, including exports – 10686,3 million US dollars (57,5% less), imports – 28579,6 million US dollars (53,6% less).
