Population size and migration

The population of the region as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 791,3 thousand people, including 360,9 thousand people (45,6% ) - urban, 430,4 thousand people (54,4%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-March 2024 amounted to 4036 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 4290 people).

The number of births as January- March 2024 amounted to 4967 people (1,6% less than in January-March 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 931 people (22,5% more than in January-March 2023).

The balance of migration was positive and amounted to - 490 people (in January-March 2023 - 1309 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of - 895 people (1439), in internal - negative - - 405 people and (130).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 18,3 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 5% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 17227 people, or 4,8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 571403 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 12,1%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 101,7%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 283707 tenge, which is 35,7% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the index of real cash income for the specified period is 122,9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January- April 2024 amounted to 927859,2 million tenge in current prices, which is 2,1% more than in January- April 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 1,4%, in the manufacturing industry - by 13,7%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was decline by 3,1%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - increased by 10,7%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-April 2024 amounted to 8996,3 million tenge, or 99,4% by January-April 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2024 amounted to 9261 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 99,3% compared to January-April 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic - 1503,4 million pkm, or 123,3% by January-April 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 39215 million tenge, or 78,5% compared to January-April 2023.

In January-April 2024, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 34,6% and amounted to 125 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by х% (х thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 2,1% (74 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2024 amounted to 229369 million tenge, or 83,8% by January-April 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 16804 units and prevaricated by 0,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 16432 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 14037 units, including 13655 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 14535 units and prevaricated by 0,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January-April 2024 compared to January-April 2023 amounted to 98,8%. The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2023 amounted to at current prices 4866995,3 million tenge Compared to the corresponding period of January-December 2022, real GRP increased by 20%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 49,8%, services 42,1%.     

The consumer price index in April 2024 compared to December 2023 was 103,6%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,6%, non-food products - by 4,6%, paid services for the population - by 4%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2024 compared to December 2023 decline by 4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 100017,6 million tenge, or 6,1% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 131508,9 million tenge, or 109,2% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 38,1 million US dollars and decreased by 39,9% compared to January-March 2023, including exports - 4,2 million US dollars (by 43,6% less), imports - 33,9 million US dollars (39,5% less).
